Radio Estafette amplifies the fundraiser day-event taking place on 28.09.2024 at Halles de Schaerbeek. We dedicate this day to the dignity of the Palestinian people. Calls for social justice and global solidarity were born on the streets, from Gaza to Brussels - we invite everybody mobilised to take our energies inside for one day. Many collectives tirelessly mobilised for the past 12 months are gathering at De Kriekelaar and Halles de Schaerbeek, from 10:00 to 00:00. Radio Estafette will broadcast the event to the world.
What is the role of culture in a time of genocide? Since the start of the genocide in Palestine, Brussels has become one of the main destinations for Palestinian asylum applications. Throughout Europe, states practice politics of neglect, leaving people in dire and precarious conditions. Locally, autonomous networks of solidarity are emerging. They are providing housing to Palestinian asylum seekers, from private hosting to larger occupied buildings, but also support for basic needs (food, health, administrative support). For these reasons, we are using our institutional and cultural resources to organise a fundraiser in support of these civilian networks.
With Estafette for Palestine, we hope not only to visibilise these DIY networks, but also to create a meeting space for us all, from every background. Culture functions as a crossroads, connecting different activist networks through play, dance, thought and grief. After all, shouldn't global solidarity be the root of all culture? The event unites locals, Palestinians, cultural actors, activists and everyone in between and around. Through talks, music, workshops, movie screenings and food, we thus invite you all to join a network of resistance.
Estafette, MONTAGE, Sal de Fête and Soumaya Phéline Abouda have joined forces with Caddy for Palestine, Tamarod, Kaaitheater, Bâtard Festival, Habemus Papam and Fondation Marius Jacob. The initiative has grown to gather over 50 other collectives and individuals, activists and artists, from Belgium and beyond. Culture flourishes where solidarity takes root. Let’s unite!
